Listen to the waves,
As they caress
each grain of sand,
embracing sea to land
Listen carefully, as they murmur
then croon across the sand
cascading rhythms of the sea
Walk along hand in hand just you and me,
our skin warmed by a sunny kiss;
our soles sanded and cleaned and washed
by ocean’s frothy slosh
on the edge of the sea.
Listen to the waves as they dance
anticipating our summer romance
Listen closely to the hissing retreat
of shells and sand across our naked feet.
Breathe deeply the scent of salted air
That brushes each strand of hair.
soothing the passion of summer heat.
A hint of love soon to be shared.

Listen also to the wind
as it carries the challenge
of a gull’s brazen call to the summer breeze,
demanding blessing to wheel and soar
with simple ease,
soon to dive and plunder the bounty of the sea
Today we walk
and listen to the gentle waves,
enjoying an ephemeral summer day
tranquil, short and sweet, ending soon
transformed by humor of wind, sun, sea and moon.
So, beware the coming stormy sea.
When enraged waves will grind and gnash:
compelled by wind’s cruel lash
to gather strength and to crash and crash,
Churning sand, shell and weed
compelling waves take out the ocean’s trash,
later claimed by another tide or hand.
Beneath the waves continued splash
lies the sand, a water-colored canvas
sculpted by tidal rise and fall.,
Surface now marred by our passing step
soon swept away by tidal reach
Erasing our impression from the beach
Yielding briefly to our measured stride
as we walk along the edge of tide
and listen to the waves.
As summer’s desire fades.
